Eco-Friendly means doing what you can to be kind to the environment.
Beginning with the Fall 2020 Collection Impo introduced a new eco-friendly recycled material Eco Faux Suede Stretch which is used in our stretch shoes and boots. Other eco-friendly materials will debut in upcoming collections including a new Eco Stretch Crepe for spring styles.
Eco Faux Suede Stretch is a soft new material made from repurposed plastic bottles.
In the United States alone, 1 billion water bottles are consumed each year. About 30% of those bottles are currently recycled. The balance ends up in landfills across the country.
Some of the worst plastic pollution is in the marine environment. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans on top of the estimated 150 million metric tons that currently circulate in our marine environments. By 2050 it is estimated that there will be more plastic bottles in the ocean than fish.
Plastic bottles that are collected through recycling efforts around the globe are shredded into plastic flakes which are then turned into pellets.
These recycled pellets are then heated and extruded to create fibers. These fiber strands are then spun into yarn.
Finally, the colorful yarns are woven to create our Eco Faux Suede Stretch, a soft, high-quality stretch material that gives our shoes and boots a stylish fashion right look, a luxurious feel and superb fit.
This unique process of repurposing plastic bottles into high-quality fabric uses 9 recycled plastic bottles to create 1 yard of woven fabric and will result in the use of millions of recycled plastic bottles.
We are passionate about sustainability and reducing our impact on this planet and will continue to develop industry-leading new Eco-Friendly materials to meet that goal.
